SASA TO BECOME THE PRODUCTION BASE OF THE REGION IN POLYESTER

Erdemoğlu Holding
30 Dec 2019
Planning to invest 11,5 billion dollars in SASA that it purchased from the Sabancı Group in 2015, Erdemoğlu Holding aims to convert the company into a production base of North Africa, Europe, and Asia.

It will grow fourfold in 2020

ERDEMOĞLU said, "SASA that carries out the production of polyester fiber, polyester cif, and polyester texturing has attained a production capacity of 425 million dollars, with the facility we put into service this year. This figure will increase to 1,5-2 billion dollars through two new facilities that will be put into service in March and May 2020, with an investment of 800 million dollars."

We will prevent Turkey's five billion-dollar annual current deficit

ERDEMOĞLU said, "We are a candidate for the acquisition of the 8,5-million square-meter land that was previously allocated to the Çalık Holding in Yumurtalık. The file is at the Ministry. We contemplate an 11,5 billion-dollar investment there by 2031. When we do so, we will prevent Turkey's annual deficit of five billion dollars. Once it was transformed into products and exported, we will prevent its current deficit of 12 to 15 billion dollars and take place among the top five in the world."

We have improved the wages and conditions of the employees

İBRAHİM Erdemoğlu said: When we purchased this place, they were employing 180 subcontracted employees and our first operation became the inclusion of all the subcontracted employees in a contracted permanent scheme. We improved all the social rights of employees despite the fact that they were unionized. When we made the purchase, there were one thousand 300 employees and now that figure has exceeded two thousand.

ERDEMOĞLU Holding has reanimated SASA that it purchased in 2010. İbrahim Erdemoğlu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Erdemoğlu Holding that purchased 51 percent of its shares from Sabancı and owned 84 percent of them by acquiring new shares subsequently, said that SASA will be the production base of the region by conducting the production of polyester raw materials in the near future.

WE MUST PRODUCE THE RAW MATERIAL

Erdemoğlu expressed their main policies using the following wording: "We will be the polyester base of North Africa, the Middle East, Russia, and Europe. The product import of that region is 60 billion dollars. There is no reason to think that Turkey will not produce and sell 20-30 billion dollars of it. For the time being, we are unable to compete with the producers in other countries because they produce raw materials by themselves. That is why we hurry for the land in Yumurtalık, following our demand for the land in Dörtyol. This is all that can be done. Producers cannot be competitive. If we do those, we, as Turkey, acquire only four percent on the polyester market. Even four percent will prevent a current deficit figure of 15 billion dollars. The employment figure will attain hundreds of thousands. Our problem is this."
