SASA Polyester Sanayi AŞ that markets approximately 60 percent of the 700 thousand-ton polyester it produces annually to the producers of health, hygiene, and packaging materials has received 20-percent additional orders due to the impact of the novel-type coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. İrfan Başkır, SASA General Manager, expressed in his statement that 2019 was the year of commencement, in which their planned investments started to be made gradually.

Başkır mentioned that they have put a significant lunge of investment into practice and that their polyester production capacity increased from 350 thousand tons to 700 thousand tons on an annual basis upon commissioning of their polyester fiber facility investment. Başkır added that their capacity will become at the level of 1,4 million tons with their investment of the "second phase" in May and "third phase" in June.

THE INCREASE ARISES FROM ABROAD

Pointing out that SASA is in the position of a producer that provides polyester to the sectors in question, Başkır said the proportion of the health, hygiene, and packaging producers in their portfolio is approximately 60 percent. Specifying that the ratio shifted upward due to the increasing demand with the impact of the pandemic and that a large portion of the increase arises from abroad, Başkır said, "I believe we will experience a period, in which we will be able to compensate a possible decline in the utilization in the field of textiles very conveniently, with the increase in other sectors."

UNDERLINING DOMESTIC PRODUCTION

Expressing that they will continue their endeavors in different areas following the completion of their current investment processes, Başkır said their R&D units are conducting highly significant works on the production of packaging products that can be solved in nature. Başkır referred to the importance of domestic production in that process and said: “There has been much different, rightful, and additional justification behind this mobilization for domestic production due to the pandemic. All kinds of production concerning the procurement of the packaging materials, some health products, and main inputs that we will need started to be of absolute and substantial importance. The fact that such investments were rightful became clear. "
