A Global Asset Strengthened by Determination, Stability, Experience, and Innovation
Since 1966, SASA Polyester has been among the industry’s pioneers not only in Türkiye but also on a global scale, thanks to its innovative vision and robust production infrastructure, today, it continues to grow with determination as one of the most important players in the global polyester industry.
As of April 30, 2015, following the acquisition of SASA shares owned by Sabancı Holding by Erdemoğlu Holding, the company’s ownership structure was restructured to consist of 51% Erdemoğlu Holding and 49% publicly held shares. Following the completion of the mandatory share purchase process in August 2015, Erdemoğlu Holding A.Ş.’s stake in SASA Polyester Sanayi A.Ş. reached 84.80%. With its integration into Erdemoğlu Holding, SASA has further enhanced its influence in international markets through strategic investments and secured a stronger position within a broad industrial ecosystem spanning textiles, carpets, and petrochemicals. Today, with over 15,000 employees, Erdemoğlu Holding steadfastly continues its sustainable growth with high production capacity and an integrated facility structure.
Erdemoğlu Holding’s investments in SASA, totaling up to $4 billion, have accelerated the company’s transformation; SASA, which stands out in the polyester sector with its environmentally friendly and innovative production philosophy, continues its investments uninterrupted in line with its capacity expansion goals.
With production facilities spanning 2,181,000 m² in Adana, a 56,000 m² raw material storage area in Iskenderun, and an expert staff of approximately employees, SASA ranks among the world’s leading producers of polyester chips, fibers, and filaments.
By producing PTA, which is the primary raw material for polyester, at Türkiye’s and Europe’s largest eco-friendly facility, which features an investment value of $1.85 billion and an annual capacity of 1,750,000 tons, the company is significantly reducing Türkiye’s reliance on imports while substantially enhancing its global competitive strength.
As part of the investments commissioned in 2025:
• With a PET Chip plant featuring a $250 million investment value and an annual production capacity of 330,000 tons, the total annual production has reached 850,000 tons,
• With a polyester fiber plant featuring a $650 million investment value and an annual production capacity of 402,500 tons, annual production of 52,500 tons of low-melt fiber was achieved, raising total fiber capacity to 800,000 tons per year.
In the same year, total polyester production capacity reached 2 million tons, significantly boosting SASA’s global production capacity.
Thanks to these strategic moves, SASA has become capable of producing approximately 2% of the world’s polyester production, including raw materials; it has risen to the position of a strong supplier that reduces reliance on imports in critical sectors such as textiles, packaging, automotive, and petrochemicals.
One of SASA’s most notable projects, a $25 billion refinery, petrochemical, and port investment planned on an 11 million m² site in Yumurtalık, Adana, is attracting significant global interest. With this project, which is targeted for completion within 12 years:
• 20 million tons of production capacity,
• $25 billion in revenue,
• and approximately 20,000 direct jobs are targeted.
SASA’s massive investment in the Yumurtalık refinery, petrochemical complex, and port aims to transform Türkiye and the Eastern Mediterranean into a strategic petrochemical production hub by integrating with the Ceyhan Industrial Zone and leveraging regional logistics advantages. With this transformation, Türkiye will become a strong and reliable supply hub for these products serving Europe, the Turkic Republics, Africa, and the entire Mediterranean basin.
SASA is also a leader in sustainability:
• The first polyester manufacturer in Türkiye to receive an Environmental Label,
• A member of the United Nations Global Compact,
• A manufacturer that meets 60% of its energy needs from its own sources,
• A manufacturer that has increased its renewable energy usage rate to 20%.
By increasing energy efficiency through its 16.4 MWp rooftop solar power plant in Adana (12 million dollars) and 45.7 MWp ground-mounted solar power plant in Gaziantep (25 million dollars), SASA is making its production processes more sustainable thanks to the waste heat recovery system at its PTA facility.
Today as one of the largest polyester producers across a broad region spanning Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, SASA is advancing toward its goal of establishing Türkiye as a strategic global production hub through its integrated production capacity, high-tech investments, and vision for sustainable growth.
With a focus on environmental, social, and corporate governance principles, SASA continues to create value under the Erdemoğlu Holding umbrella in accordance with international quality standards by integrating artificial intelligence and advanced technology into its production processes, thereby representing Türkiye more strongly on the global stage.
