Türkiye Will Stop 23 Billion Dollars Worth of Imports with Domestic Production
THE REGION'S STRONGEST ACTOR
Türkiye imported approximately 23 billion dollars worth of petrochemical products last year. Stating that they want to reduce imports in the petrochemical sector and become a regional production center, İbrahim Erdemoğlu, Chairman of the Board of Erdemoğlu Holding, said, "If America has a strategy to push China further into the Asian region in the medium and long term, it needs an alternative production base in our geography to implement this. There is no strong alternative other than Türkiye. The idea of investing approximately 25 billion dollars in Yumurtalık, which we conceived 8 years ago, stems from this."
CEYHAN-YUMURTALIK LINE
Emphasizing that logistics will be one of the most critical issues in production in the new world order of the next 5-10 years, Erdemoğlu continued: "Yumurtalık is practically at the center of this geography. There is a second factor that strengthens this: there are oil and natural gas resources in the Eastern Mediterranean. Where will these go? A significant portion will be transported through Türkiye. Ceyhan is very important here. As an energy center where the oil in the region, Azerbaijani oil, and hydrocarbons from different sources converge, the importance of Türkiye, especially the Ceyhan-Yumurtalık region, may increase."
33 MILLION SQUARE METER CHEMICAL SPECIALIZED ZONE
İbrahim Erdemoğlu, pointing out that approximately 33 million square meters of chemical industry area has been allocated behind their land in Yumurtalık, said, "This is a special chemical industry zone. The Ministry of Industry has been conducting various studies here for about five years. After Sasa establishes its petrochemical investment and refinery here, the raw materials needed by chemical companies will be produced right next to them. We believe that chemical companies will also come to this region in time. Thus, Türkiye can become the largest production base and chemical center in the region."
