Sasa that produces polyester, fiber, filament, and polyester-based polymers in Adana as a subsidiary of the Erdemoğlu Holding is awaiting consent for a land allocation from the Ministry of Industry and Technology, following the completion of the EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) process for the construction of the 11,8 billion-dollar plant that will provide raw material.

The planning and ongoing investments of Sasa and the Erdemoğlu Holding that made a headline in the Dünya News, with the recent boom of orders in carpets and polyester and its endeavors as the most significant procurer of the packaging of health, hygiene, and medical products in the course of the pandemic, also invite attention through their size that will impact international trade.

Dr. Mehmet Şeker, Member of the Board of Directors of Sasa, stated that the the project for the gigantic production facilities that will provide Sasa with raw materials has a structure that will alter the dynamics in the global industry and informed as follows: “The total investment value of the project with which it is planned to conduct MEG and PTA production in Adana’s district of Yumurtalık reaches 11.8 billion-dollars. We have completed the EIA report process and received that report for the 8.5 million square-meter land upon the direction of the Ministry. We are waiting for a consent for a land allocation from the Ministry of Industry and Technology.”

“We will prevent a 12-15 billion-dollar current deficit”

Highlighting the fact that Turkey imports the raw material that they will produce, in exchange of billions of dollars, every year, Dr. Şeker said, “We can start the investment right after the provision of the land. Following the provision of the land in Yumurtalık by way of either allocation or privatization, we can commence one of the largest projects for our country right away. Owing to this investment, we will prevent a five billion-dollar current deficit of Turkey, which will become 12-15 billion dollars once it is converted into products and exported. We will be the production base of Europe, along with Africa, the Middle East, and Russia. When it comes true, we will be a candidate for the 30 billion-dollar share of the 60 billion-dollar import of our region. Thanks to Yumurtalık, we will provide the market with the guarantee of the cheapest and best-quality raw material. Following us, new investments with the value of billions of dollars, which will create hundreds of thousands of jobs, will take place one after another.”

Pointing out that the facilities established from scratch stand out among Sasa’s investments, Dr. Şeker said one of them is 400 million-dollar poy and texture and the other is bottle chips with 100 million-dollar cost. Şeker added that contribution is provided thanks to the poy and texture plant to the localization of 500 million-dollar products that come to Turkey by way of importation and that the way of export for giant group companies is paved, in addition to the prevention of import, through the bottle chips investment.

First phase of the three-stage investment was completed
Providing information regarding Sasa’s other ongoing investments, Dr. Şeker said that a three-stage investment with the total value of one-billion dollars took place at Sasa Polyester purchased by the Erdemoğlu Holding four years ago and the fiber investment, which is the first phase, with 250 million-dollar cost, was completed in the recent months. He added that the fiber production capacity of the plant was increased from 750 ton/day to 1,8 thousand ton/day and that they prevented 150 million-dollar import in that field accordingly. Dr. Şeker said, “We are fulfilling the entire need of Turkey in this field through our new investments put into service in the recent months.
